Tash Sultana has revealed their “whole world stopped” after their long-term partner was diagnosed with cancer.

The 29-year-old singer and multi-instrumentalist shared the devastating news through an Instagram video promoting her new song Hold On.

“I wrote this song for my partner who was diagnosed with cancer at the end of last year,” Sultana said.

“We didn’t have many answers at the time. It was completely unexpected, and navigating the news was turbulent, but we are getting through it together, one step at a time.”

Sultana revealed her wife Jaimie had a tumour that turned cancerous after being left undetected.

The couple found out a few days before Christmas.

“At the end of last year, my whole world stopped after one phone call,” Sultana said.

“I wrote this song for her and for anyone standing in the storm not knowing what’s next. If you’ve ever had to hold on to the people you love, this is for you.”

The reggae and soul artist said that hard life moments like this, the cancer diagnosis, is the reason they made music.

“Some songs come from a place deeper than music,” Sultana said.

“This one came from one of the hardest moments of my life. If you’ve ever felt like life was slipping through your hands, this song is for you.

“Life has thrown us a curve ball, and we’re taking it day by day.”

Sultana got engaged to Jaimie — who is the owner of active streetwear brand I and Eye and vodka soda Lonely Lands — in 2020.

Sultana rose to international prominence with their 2016 single Jungle which gained one million YouTube views in just five days.

They play an impressive range of instruments including the piano, keyboard, synth, bass, drums, trumpet, saxophone, flute, mandolin and harmonica.

In June they will tour the USA with Aussie duo Lime Cordiale.
