Brittany Higgins and David Shiraz have shared an emotional update on their unborn baby.

Ms Higgins had been told by healthcare professionals that there were concerns, saying that the baby “may be incompatible with life outside of the womb”.

“Given everything going on — it’s an understatement to say that we’ve had an acutely stressful pregnancy,” Ms Higgins wrote on Instagram. “A fortnight ago, David Shiraz and I had the scare of our lives after the midwife told us halfway through my second trimester my blood test had raised red flags.

“Our baby had a high probability of a genetic disorder - which wouldn’t have mattered to us - but scarily could mean he may be incompatible with life outside of the womb.”

In wonderful and reassuring news for the couple, Ms Higgins confirmed doctors have now given the all-clear and said the baby is doing well. “After an amniocentesis and a seemingly never-ending wait our prayers were answered. Our little guy is perfectly fine and healthy,” Ms Higgins wrote.

Ms Higgins said she wanted to speak openly about the developments to help take the stigma away from “real circumstances” many face during pregnancy.

“My mind can’t help but drifting back to that waiting room in the hospital, full of pregnant women, who were all having the same test as us and whether they had been so fortunate,” Ms Higgins wrote.

“Talking about it takes the stigma out of these very real circumstances that people are faced with when trying to start families.”

Ms Higgins shared the update along with images of her and Mr Shiraz around France and an image of an ultrasound.
