Looking relaxed and neatly shaven, Julian Assange posed for his first family photo yesterday after being released from jail.

The picture shows the WikiLeaks founder embracing his wife Stella and sons Gabriel, four, and Max, two, on a beach in Australia.

Sharing the picture on Instagram, Mrs Assange wrote: “Family photo” with the hashtag “Assange Free”.

Mr Assange, 53, was released from London’s Belmarsh prison at the end of June after 14 years of legal wrangling with US officials.

Washington had accused him of leaking classified documents relating to the Afghan and Iraq wars, which put lives in danger.

But last month, Mr Assange walked free from a court on the Mariana island of Saipan and returned to his native Australia after a deal saw him plead guilty to a charge of espionage.
