Perth bikies: Graphic picture shows how close Dayne Brajkovich came to death after having throat slit

It’s the shocking picture that shows how close feared bikie Dayne Brajkovich came to death. Starting at the base of his throat, almost in line with his Adam’s apple, the gruesome cut runs from the left side of his neck almost to the back. There are two wounds — a long grisly slice that has at least 17 staples holding it together and a smaller cut above it with two staples. Incredibly, despite Brajkovich having his throat slit and blood gushing everywhere, it missed the vital jugular vein. However, it still took a doctor — who was a concertgoer at the Kings Park show where the former Hells Angels enforcer was ambushed last Friday — to stem the bleeding. Without his quick work, the 44-year-old would likely be dead. Brajkovich had emergency surgery before walking out of Royal Perth Hospital, with his throat heavily bandaged, under police escort on Saturday morning. He also had his left middle finger bandaged, believed to have been hurt when the notorious outlaw tried to defend himself. It is understood the blade broke in the attack and that Brajkovich pulled part of it out of his throat, with his wife Jacinta watching on in horror. Police are still desperately hunting for the culprits, in what is understood to be a “retribution” attack by his former gang. It has fuelled concerns of an all out bikie war erupting across WA. Brajkovich was ambushed outside the Ministry of Sound concert on Lovekin Drive about 9.50pm. Witnesses described seeing at least six people involved in a brawl before people rushed to a bloodied Brajkovich. One believed the brawl was a ruse to distract attention away from the real aim — to kill Brajkovich. “They dispersed and then it appeared like someone had targeted him ... probably while he was distracted,” the witness said. “There was a woman that got involved and started screaming to the men to stop fighting and shaping up before they all dispersed ... then obviously around the same time someone had targeted (Brajkovich).” Another witness said that someone came from behind and “slit his throat”. The attack came after months of taunting by the disgruntled bikie of his former Hells Angels gang members. Brajkovich was kicked out of the gang after bashing Perth president Kevin Simonsen in January 2022. Just last month, he talked about moving on with his life by selling off all of his old bikie gang merch on the Gumtree website. “I asked for it, I got it. That’s the game,” Brajkovich exclusively told The Sunday Times after the attack. “But I didn’t see the knife coming. “Thought it got the jugular or artery but just a vein. Got it all sewn up.” Police this week admitted that the Gumtree advert could have been the catalyst for the attack. The tough nut said that he was moving on with his life and leaving his underworld past behind to concentrate on Jacinta and their daughter. The collection included a double-bladed axe that was given to the feared outlaw on the one-year anniversary of his being made the Hells Angels’ sergeant-at-arms. Despite numerous raids on high ranking bikie gangsters in the past few days, no arrests have been made in relation to the attack. Police Commissioner Col Blanch hinted that Brajkovich was not cooperating with investigators. “Police normally struggle with outlaw motorcycle gang investigations due to lack of cooperation — and it is no different on this occasion,” he said. “Thankfully, we have many capabilities able to collect evidence that don’t just rely on people’s willingness to come forward. “The investigation in these cases ... is often we know exactly what has happened, we know who is involved, it is really just about getting the evidence together. “We are looking for what could be a motive and a number of ideas have been put forward, from whether it is just a Gumtree ad or something ... a couple of blokes having a fight over. “I think it is quite an internal and confined investigation.” Several people involved in the fight left the scene on motorbikes. Mr Blanch said the crackdown on bikie members who occupied hierarchy positions in clubs was ongoing. “We target the hierarchy and those that are in the command and control situations of outlaw motorcycle gangs,” he said. “We believe that they direct activities, they sanction activities, so if the outlaw motorcycle gang members commit a crime we go straight after the hierarchy of those involved and we use every law available to us to go after them.” Brajkovich rose to infamy after brutally bashing late Rebels boss Nick Martin in Scarborough just weeks before his assassination at Perth Motorplex in 2020. He then made headlines in 2021 after surviving a drive-by shooting at his Ascot home in which his and wife and daughter were shot at. He has since pointed the finger at rival Comanchero bikie Jason Kemp as being the triggerman. Kemp was found dead in the private pool of his luxury Broome villa in February this year. His death was not suspicious. Brajkovich made headlines again when the Perth Mint’s lax financial controls came under the spotlight in 2022, after he used a debit card to buy $27,000 worth of gold.
