The Kings took down top Broome Basketball Association team the Tigers on Wednesday night but still couldn’t knock them off the top rung of the ladder.

The Kings are just over three percentage points behind the Tigers.

They came out all guns firing in their A-grade round six match at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre basketball courts.

The Kings claimed the first term of the match by more than 10 points as the Tigers struggled to keep up with the Kings, 32 to 21.

But the Tigers struck back in the second term, outscoring the Kings to bring the scoreboard back into check, 45 to 40.

The two teams remained neck-and-neck for the rest of the match, with two late scores from the Kings kicking them over the edge into the winning position, 66 to 63.

The Tigers’ Lattrell Matthews was the top-scorer of the match on 29 points, with the Kings’ Zaiazlyn Hart not far behind on 25 points.

The Jets just managed to clinch their win over the Gantheaume Pointers.

The Gantheaume Pointers shot to the lead in the first term with the Jets nipping at their heels, 13 to 17.

But the Jets took the lead in the second term thanks to several scores from James Joshua Manaloto, 25 to 28.

The third term saw the Jets extend their lead by just a single point with the Pointers clinging on, 47 to 43.

The Pointers put in a valiant last-quarter effort but managed to make only two scores to the Jets’ five, sealing their fate, 58 to 51.

Despite the loss, Tom Schorer was the top scorer of the match on 18 points, followed by Kurt Bello of the Jets on 13.
