Bunbury man arrested after allegedly assaulting AFP officer while drunk at Perth International Airport

A Bunbury man has been charged over an alleged drunken assault on a police officer at Perth Airport last month. The 50-year-old man was allegedly intoxicated and hostile at the airport, prompting the AFP to swarm the international terminal around 10pm on October 14. It is alleged he then became increasingly aggressive towards Australian Border Force and AFP officers, before he assaulted an officer. The officer did not require medical treatment. After being arrested, it is further alleged he continued to swear in front of travellers while being escorted out of the terminal in handcuffs. WATCH THE ARREST IN THE PLAYER ABOVE He will front Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday charged over the alleged assault and disorderly behaviour. AFP acting superintendent Peter Brindal said the officers would “take action” against anybody acting disorderly at an airport. “The AFP and our partners have no tolerance for antisocial, violent or dangerous behaviour and we will take action,” he said. “Passengers, especially those travelling with children, expect to feel safe and should not have to witness intoxication, violence or bad behaviour.”
