Court makes AVO to protect wife from former federal MP Craig Thomson

Former federal MP Craig Thomson has been served with an apprehended domestic violence order to protect his wife.

A magistrate at Gosford Local Court agreed to the police application on behalf of Zoe Thomson, documents show.

Mr Thomson was not present in court when the order was made on Monday.

Magistrate Christopher Longley ordered the former NSW politician be forbidden from assaulting, threatening, stalking, harassing or intimidating his wife or anyone with whom she has a domestic relationship.

He was also told not to destroy any of her property or harm any animal belonging to her.

The two-year order will prevent Mr Thomson from entering his wife’s home and workplace.

He was also made to stay away from an address in Terrigal, NSW that was suppressed in the court documents.

Ms Thomson, who married the then-MP in 2011, previously went by the name Zoe Arnold.

Mr Thomson was the national secretary of the Health Services Union prior to his election as member for the NSW central coast seat of Dobell in 2007.

He lost his seat at the 2013 election.

A year later, he was convicted by a Victorian court of stealing money from the HSU and was ordered to pay a fine of $25,000.
