Man charged over unprovoked assaults in Myaree and Booragoon, attack on shopper witnessed by wife and baby

Police have charged a man over two unprovoked attacks on members of the public, menacing and stealing from retailers while on a wild crime spree in Perth’s southern suburbs on Thursday night. Palmyra officers arrested a 43-year-old Como man in connection with the series of incidents across Myaree and Booragoon. According to police, the man entered a supermarket in Myaree around 5pm and assaulted a customer, who was with his wife and baby at the time. The 35-year-old victim received minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment. Police allege the accused then attended a number of nearby retailers, stealing items and damaging property before assaulting a 55-year-old man in a carpark on Leach Highway. The alleged assailant fled on foot, leaving the victim with minor injuries not requiring hospital treatment. Officers found the man a short time later at a shopping centre. He was later charged with one count of providing a false name, one count of breach of bail, one count of possessing a prohibited drug, one count of stealing, one count of criminal damage or destruction of property and two counts of common assault. And he was further charged with one count of common assault in relation to an incident that occurred on February 14 at a service station in Applecross. He appeared before Fremantle Magistrates Court on Friday and was remanded in custody until his next appearance on March 28.
