Three pilots dead as two US Army helicopters crash
Three US Army pilots have died after two AH-64 Apache helicopters crashed in central Alaska while returning from a training mission.
The AH-64 Apache helicopters from Fort Wainwright crashed on Thursday near Healy, Alaska, the 11th Airborne Division said in a statement.
Two soldiers were declared dead at the scene and a third died on the way to hospital, the division said.
The injured soldier was being treated at Alaska's Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
Healy is located about 400 kilometres north of Anchorage.
The accident will be investigated by a team from the Army Combat Readiness Center in Alabama, the division said.
Last month, nine soldiers were killed in a crash of two medical evacuation Black Hawk helicopters during a routine night training mission over Kentucky.
