CBC fire on all cylinders again for third straight KBBA victory
CBC’s emergence as the form team in the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Basketball Association’s men’s division one competition continued last Thursday night against Franchise in a one-sided win that lifted them into first place.
With just three rounds of qualifiers left, CBC grabbed top spot when a dominant opening three quarters set the tone for a 36-point triumph, 83-47.
It was a clinical display by the Collegians, who outscored their rivals 68-30 to the last change.
Franchise edged the final period, 17-15, but they were relegated to an eighth defeat as CBC matched Saints’ nine wins and edged ahead in the standings by percentage.
Jamie Bratton led CBC’s offence with a game-high 17 points, complemented by Nathan Vince (15), Flynn Baroni (12), Cee-Jhay Lopez (11) and Mike Exell (10).
For Franchise, Kieran Russell, Isaac Brown, and Hemara Pita combined for 40 points.
Despite the result, Franchise retained third place — two games clear of Olympians.
The night, however, belonged to CBC, who are on a three-game winning streak and have prevailed in six of their past seven games.
The squad’s last defeat was at the hands of Franchise in round nine.
Last week’s round was completed on Friday night when Olympians upset Saints 90-81.
It was an impressive display from Olympians, who went into the clash with just one win, and they trailed by 16 points at quarter-time.
But in a stunning form reversal, they dominated each of the next three quarters — a revival they launched in a powerful second-stanza burst when they outscored the reigning premiers, 32-19.
Nicholas Shaw’s dynamic offensive showing yielded a game-high 43 points, and Kaleb Walley had 25 points.
It was Olympians’ first victory since round two that voided Charlie Scafidi’s team-high 42 points in the opposition camp.
Saints went into the Christmas break on a two-game winning streak, but they have now lost each of their two games since the resumption.
Round 13 starts on Thursday night when Saints play Franchise at 7.05pm.
Friday’s clash between Olympians and CBC starts at 7.30pm.
Ladder:
CBC 30 points; Saints 30 points; Franchise 20; Olympians 16.
