Three products from the Goldfields Football League were among Subiaco’s high-achievers at the WAFL club’s season awards announced last weekend.

Former Railways player Ryan Borchet was honoured with the Mick (Magic) Bailey league coaches award.

He also received the Austin Robertson Jr award as the senior team’s leading goal kicker.

Another former Panther, Judd Kelman, was judged player of the finals, while Mines Rovers product Rory Murison won the reserves coaches award.

Borchet debuted with Subiaco in 2018.

Two years ago, he enjoyed a memorable Goldfields homecoming by kicking four goals in tandem with Ben Sokol as the Lions grabbed a 14-point win, 12.10 (82) to 10.8 (68), over Swan Districts at Sir Richard Moore Sports Centre.

Borchet and Sokol combined for five last-quarter goals that lifted them to an important win that underpinned the first WAFL fixture played in Kalgoorlie-Boulder since 2014.

Kelman was the GFL’s 2022 Milton Cairnduff rookie of the year and moved to Perth this year to pursue his WAFL aspirations.

Recognition came early when Kelman was named in the Lions league team for the season-opener against Perth at Mineral Resources Park.

Murison, who made his is league debut in August, played in Mines Rovers’ 2021 colts grand final team and represented the GFL before moving to Perth the following season and winning the Taylor Medal as Subiaco’s leading colts player.

Also last weekend, Mines Rovers product Malakai Champion excelled at the AFL national draft combine, where he was fifth in the 20m sprint and second in the agility test.
