South coast trainer Helen Harding is playing it cool after her rich vein of form at the Esperance Bay Turf Club produced two more winners at last Saturday’s meeting.

Harding, who is closing in on 30 years as a licensed trainer, has been a shining light at the club’s past three meetings that has produced seven victories.

Not that she is counting — instead content to ride a wave of success with just three meetings left, culminating with the $100,000 Esperance Cup (2000m) on March 2.

Fresh off three winners on January 25, Harding struck early last weekend when Everlasting Spirit ($2.05 favourite) won race two over 1400m.

It was also the first of two winners for Kyra Yuill, who piloted the Harding-trained Uncompromised ($2.40 favourite) to victory in the $22,000 Esperance Quality Grains Handicap (1400m).

Simone Altieri also booted home two winners — aboard the Anthony Barton-trained Demetrious ($3.30) in race one and True Chance ($2.50 favourite) in the last race, for Gary Burger.

Whatever Harding’s winning formula, she said it was not the result of anything she had not already tried across a long career.

“Seven (winners) in the last three (meetings) is nice but before that, I couldn’t tell you,” Harding said.

“Statistically it’s been better than last year, but it all depends on what horses I’ve got .

“I’ve had better years and I’ve had worse years, and its just been that I’ve had better horses (among 15 currently in work).”

Five days a week, Harding starts her day 3am — early starts that are brought forward to 2am twice a week for track work.

“You pretty much get used to it,” she said.

Racing at Esperance continues this Saturday.
