Panthers seeking more GFL glory in 2025
Railways’ pursuit of a third Goldfields Football League flag in four seasons will be formally launched under senior coach Rhett Pettit on February 3 at Sir Richard Moore Sports Centre.
Under Pettit, the Panthers have been a dominant force in each of the last three years.
However, the squad’s impressive run was broken-up by a heartbreaking defeat by two points against Boulder in the 2023 decider.
The squad was also tested by Kalgoorlie in last year’s grand final, when their victory wasn’t sealed until 11 minutes into the last quarter, when captain Alex Stuart kicked a goal that extended the lead to a match-winning 20 points.
Star onballer Trent Reed added to the team’s premiership success by scoring a narrow victory to claim the Brierley Medal.
Reed, whose career includes a stint with South Fremantle in the WAFL, was among nine players from Railways, along with Pettit as coach, honoured in the GFL’s 2024 team of the year.
Railways will open the 2025 season chasing back-to-back premierships for the first time since 2011-12, when Graeme Borchet was at the helm.
The opening preseason session on February 3 starts at 6pm.
