Roos looking to cap off big season with victory over Mines Rovers in colts decider

Kalgoorlie’s favouritism over Mines Rovers for the Goldfields Football League’s colts flag is well-earned with 13 wins and a percentage of 257.2 during the qualifiers.

The Roos’ case is supported by victories in four of five head-to-head clashes against Mines Rovers this year.

But even in defeat, the Diorites made decent inroads on the margins — from 49 points in round three, to 24 points in round eight and 23 points in round 13.

The rivalry turned full circle in round 18 when Mines Rovers won every quarter against the competition’s leaders in a 36-point win.

Apart from a round-two loss against Boulder when they were held to 4.1 (25), the black-and-whites’ 5.6 (36) was their lowest score of the season.

Unperturbed, Kalgoorlie upstaged Mines Rovers in the second semifinal by 19 points — mainly on the strength of Harrison Tarasinski’s three goals.

Mines Rovers stayed alive in the flag race by last weekend defeating Boulder in the preliminary final by 19 points.

This weekend’s grand final combatants boast the division’s top-four goal kickers — led by the Roos’ Tish Clark with 34 majors.

Mines Rovers’ Charlie Scafidi holds down second spot with 28 goals from Tarasinski (22) and the Diorites’ Shayden Doughty (20).

Although just outside the top-six, Kalgoorlie teammates Hurricane Clark and Jake Tucker have combined for 31 goals.
