Boddington Football Club add depth in search of three-peat in the Upper Great Southern Football League

Dominant Upper Great Southern Football League side Boddington have recruited strongly in their quest for a third successive premiership, ahead of the season starting later this month. The Eagles appear in a strong position to make it a three-peat of UGSFL flags after picking up a number of quality players while retaining the majority of their 2019 premiership side. Gun Waroona duo Ben Wright and Ryan McKinlay have made the move from the Peel Football League while they have also recruited Brendan Erceg, who played for Mundijong last season, after initially starting on Perth’s senior list in the WAFL. Eagles coach Rod Williams said star player Michael Humble was set to join the West Coast Eagles reserves in the WAFL after dropping close to 8kg before returning to the Eagles, where he won the Leo Graham Medal as the best player in the competition last season. Premiership ruckman James Hay will be a big omission for the Eagles, however, spending a season off to concentrate on university studies. Williams said it was going to be an interesting but exciting season but was pleased they had added extra depth to their squad. “I think every side will be competitive this season, I'm confident in our sides ability but it will be based on what the other sides bring, we can only control the things we can control,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to the challenge, winning a grand final is hard but to try win three is difficult. “We will bring our best. “We expect every side to come hard, Nothing is given what we get we will have to earn. “We will have to work hard if we want to get through the challenges. “We have a good connection with Waroona and a few mates of our players put their hands up and said we want to come play for you. “Coming off a premiership season, we just wanted to replace what we had and we have recruited some quality players and quality people. “Michael is looking fit as ever, he was jumping out of his skin to play WAFL and it’s unfortunate for him he can’t play up there but fortunate for us because he basically won everything up here last season.” Williams said his side was well balanced and had a strong core group. “I have been super impressed with training, our foot skills have been really sharp as good as I've seen out here at Boddington,” he said. “Everyone is jumping out their skin. “We have some high-quality players and adding them extra couple of experienced players should definitely help. “The club is in a good position. “We have had struggles throughout the past but we are fortunate to have some success now.” The UGSFL season starts on July 18.
