Cancer drive cross-country

Narrogin’s “Jus Good Ol Boys” are gearing up for a good old cause — the 2019 Shitbox Rally, a cross-country challenge for the Cancer Council in May.

Peter Baker and Adrian Dabinett have been selected to take part in the 10th annual Shitbox rally, which will take them from Perth to Sydney via Uluru in a Mitsubishi worth less than $1000.

“We just pick up (our Mitsubishi) from someone leaving town, a backpacker,” Mr Baker said.

“It was the go-fast stripes that sold it.”

Mr Dabinett said the rally was popular, with thousands on the waiting list, forcing organisers to split it into two separate legs in 2019.

“It’s a Cancer Council fundraiser, it was founded by a bloke who lost both his parents to cancer a thought of the idea to do a rally through the remote parts of Australia,” he said.

“This is the tenth running of it... I’ve been following it for a few years and we’ve been lucky enough to be selected (this year).”

The pair will be setting off across the continent on May 8, expecting to arrive in Sydney on May 17.

In the past 10 years, the rally has raised close to $15 million, with Jus Good Ol Boys contributing $5,340 so far.
