Danielle Tilbrook recognised at 2022 WA Youth Work Awards for her years of work

Wickepin’s Danielle Tilbrook has won the Anglicare Youth Worker Award at the 2022 WA Youth Work Awards. The awards were held at the Rosemount Hotel in Perth last month. Ms Tilbrook was presented with a monetary prize and trophy by State Wide Services general manager John Thompson in acknowledgement of her work ethic and years of providing support to WA’s young people. Ms Tilbrook has 20 years of experience working in the youth work sector and now works at Youth Futures on their ‘Anchor Point’ program supporting young people to address barriers preventing them from engaging in education. She currently works with a caseload of 28 young people as well as ‘on boarding’ new youth workers and assessing new clients. As part of her volunteer work, she worked with the Youth Work WA committee for five years from 2012. During this time, she helped organise the first WA Youth Work awards and was the committee’s treasurer ensuring the organisation’s financial stability. In her acceptance speech, Ms Tilbrook said she was lucky to have worked as a youth worker for so many years. “It has been a privilege to walk beside young people on their journey,” she said. “Youth work can be really hard some days and often we hear some really tough things. “Sometimes we can see the worst of humanity when we see what’s being done to young people. But just know that you do make a difference. “So, if you are here with a friend, if you are here with a colleague, if you are here with a family member, whoever it is you are here with and you are here with a youth worker, don’t forget to remind them how awesome they are.”
