Dumbleyung Shire reveals concept design for $5.4m pool redevelopment

A concept design for the Dumbleyung pool upgrade has been revealed.

The design for the project, which is expected to cost about $5.4 million, was selected after community consultation in Dumbleyung and Kukerin.

The redevelopment will incorporate a new main swimming pool, filtration system and pump room.

Existing infrastructure, including the toddler pool, kiosk and change rooms, will also receive a facelift.

The Shire of Dumbleyung anticipates the project will be funded in part by the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, Shire funds and community fundraising.

“This is a momentous decision by the Shire of Dumbleyung council which puts us on track now to proceed to full project design and business case preparedness,” Dumbleyung Shire president Julie Ramm said.

“Once the outcomes of this grant funding application are known, we will then be in a position to clearly understand all of the external funding pools available and the remaining shortfall to be secured, either through the Bain Estate and/or borrowings.”

The Bain Estate was bequeathed to the shire by the late Ian Bain.

Mr Bain’s will outlined a desire for the funds to be used to support emergency services, healthcare and sporting groups in the shire.

About $930,000 from the Bain Estate Future Fund has been invested into the Dumbleyung community since 2015.

Mr Bain was a reclusive local farmer and it is estimated he left the Dumbleyung community with an estate worth around $5m.
