Georgia Ellis makes it three in a row after taking out the 2023 WA quarter midget State title in Mt Barker

Teenager speedway star Georgia Ellis has done herself proud after securing her third successive WA Quarter Midget State Title earlier this year. Ellis claimed the championship in Mt Barker back in May and the 15-year-old was thrilled to collect more silverware. “The first year I won it was in Geraldton and last year I won on my home track in Narrogin where I set a record winning two consecutive State titles,” Ellis said. “Adding a third feels pretty good.” Her third win was no walk in the park, however, as a series of mechanical issues had the young racer go into the feature race starting from 12th position. “At the start my engine kept moving back, the chain wasn’t able to go around properly so I didn’t finish my first two races,” she said. “On the third race one of the sprocket teeth was too long, it nearly completely destroyed my chain. “We changed my sprocket over before the feature and thankfully that was the end of my dramas.” Driving the midget that Ellis won last year’s State title in was Flynn Harper, who led the race for 13 of the 15 laps. Ellis attributed her winning streak to sound mechanics and focus. “Dad does all of my mechanics, you have to have a decent car to finish in the top five,” she said. “Apart from that, you’re brain is doing 100 miles per hour as you race, you’ve got to know what the track is doing, what the other drivers are doing, what you’re doing. “When I’m racing I get very focused and I think I can read everything really well and that’s why I finished in first place.”
