HAZMAT warning issued by DFES due to possibly dangerous smoke caused by Narrogin rubbish fire

Smoke from a rubbish fire at the Narrogin Refuse Site near White Road and Clayton Road triggered a hazmat warning on Wednesday.

The fire was reported to the Department of Emergency Services at 4.56am and the warning was issued at 7.44am.

The smoke is moving in a westerly direction, impacting people in the area bound by Cooraminning Road to the west, Williams Kondinin Road to the south, Narrakine Road to the east and Fleay Road to the north in parts of Narrogin, Dumberning and Minigin.

A crew from Narrogin Bush Fire Brigade and Minigin Bush Fire Brigade are using machinery to separate the rubbish into smaller piles to extinguish the blaze more easily.

What to do:

• As a precautionary measure, people in the area should remain inside, out of the smoke or fumes, with doors and windows closed. Air conditioners should also be switched off.
• People should stay away from the area. If you are already in the area take advice from emergency services personnel.
