Hundreds of Christmas-lovers attended Pingelly’s inaugural Christmas village featuring WA’s biggest inflatable Santa Claus.

More than 700 people attended Pingelly Christmas Village on November 29 with the community installing about 50,000 fairy lights, 3km of tinsel, 650m of garlands and handcrafted and restored street decorations to bring out the Christmas spirit.

A 10m-tall inflatable Santa Claus stood in the centre of town, which Pingelly shire chief executive Andrew Dover said was the biggest in WA, proven by his online research.

A visit from Santa and his elves, twilight markets, a game truck, soft play and a disco igloo provided family fun for all ages while food trucks and a showing of the 2018 remake of The Grinch entertained attendees from 5pm.

Mr Dover said he was proud of the event’s success and the community volunteers.

“Attendees were frequently overheard commenting with amazement at the beautiful decorations, the activities provided and the festive atmosphere,” he said.

“The Christmas village is made possible by the incredible efforts of our community. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who contributed.”
