Narrogin residents will have the chance to tour some of the best-kept gardens in town while raising money for charities when the Narrogin Kambarang Spring Open Gardens event returns next month.

Local mother and daughter Gloria Radford and Kellie Wilkins have revived the previously annual event, set to take place on October 16 for the first time in four years.

“The open gardens was something that has been missed in the last few years, so we saw a perfect opportunity to bring it back to life,” Ms Wilkins said.

“We talked to many people who had previously been involved in the open gardens and gathered feedback on how the gardeners would like to see the day run.

“We then joined forces with the Narrogin Agricultural Society to help leverage off the existing large following of the Narrogin Show being held the day before.”

Visitors will have the chance to tour five local gardens and attend a sundowner event with live music in the afternoon.

Each of the gardeners has chosen a different charity to raise money for, including the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Friends of Karinya, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, and Make A Wish Foundation.

“A portion of every garden entry fee will go to the allocated charity and there will also be opportunities for additional donations and fundraisers,” Ms Wilkins said.

“We’ve also had some fantastic sponsors come on board with every entry getting a ticket into the major door prize.

“One of the gardens will also be hosting an after-hours sundowner event from 4.30pm with live music for a gold coin donation.”

Ms Wilkins made special mention of the community support to get the event back up and running.

“We have generated a lot of interest and excitement around this year’s event and the support from local businesses and people has been phenomenal,” Ms Wilkins said.

“The gardeners are putting in so much effort to get their gardens looking their absolute best, so we cannot wait to share them with you on the day.”

Maps of the gardens can be found at Belvedere Nursery; Narrogin Valley Stockfeed; J&D Lifestyle Home and Gift; and Narrogin Nursery, Café and Gallery.
