Narrogin 2024 youth citizen of the year Abby Dewing recognised for leadership and academic achievement

Abby Dewing has been named Narrogin’s 2024 youth citizen of the year after demonstrating excellence and achievement at Narrogin Senior High School and in the community. Abby was the first community member to be called upon by Shire of Narrogin president Leigh Ballard at Narrogin’s Australia Day celebration to receive an award. “This is a momentous occasion that allows us to recognise and honour those individuals who have made a lasting impact in our community,” he said as he opened the ceremony. “Our community is the beating heart of the Shire of Narrogin and its strength lies in the dedication, selflessness and spirit of its people.” A student councillor at Narrogin Senior High School, Abby has distinguished herself as a positive role model, sportsperson and advocate for growth, sustainability and community development. “Abby was nominated for her outstanding contributions particularly in netball, where she not only excels on the court but also umpires and dedicates herself to coaching juniors,” Mr Ballard said. “Her commitment to skill development is evident and as a student councillor Abby leads with a quietly impactful influence fostering innovative thinking for an improved school environment. “Her remarkable ability to meet deadlines reflects in both academic excellence and positive role-modelling for her peers.” In May last year, Abby was one of 12 Year 11 students selected for a Telstra Tech for STEM Regional Scholarship 2023. Abby was presented with a new laptop in recognition of her continued engagement with science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
