Narrogin Senior High School students does school community proud as country week returns after two-year hiatus

Narrogin Senior High School students did their school community proud after recording four division wins at country week in Perth. NSHS took 71 students from Years 11 and 12 to the high school competition which ran from August 29-September 2. The students formed eight teams to compete in hockey, volleyball, netball, basketball, touch football and soccer. Six of the eight teams made it into their respective grand finals, with the mixed hockey B-division, girls volleyball, netball G-division and girls basketball teams all securing a win. The netball B-division and boys’ basketball teams both placed second after coming up short in their grand finals. The mixed touch football team finished third and mixed soccer team placed last “but had a lot of fun”, according to NSHS. The event came after the 2020 and 2021 editions of country week were cancelled because of COVID-19 restrictions. NSHS health and physical education teacher Jordan Heil said the students were excited about the competition. “After last year’s disappointment of unpacking for country week due to COVID-19, students were excited to put their training into action,” he said. “All squads performed above our coaches’ expectations and it was great to see students rewarded with four division wins. “The behaviour and sportsmanship displayed throughout the carnival has made NSHS community proud. “I look forward to preparing for country week 2023.” The students also enjoyed games of tenpin bowling, going to the cinema and climbing Jacob’s Ladder before a presentation evening at South Fremantle Football Club on September 1.
