Narrogin to Williams Rail Trail Feasibility Study is under way to build a new scenic trail between the shires

A new trail could connect Narrogin and Williams with the shires commissioning a joint feasibility study for transforming the old railway line into a multi-use path. The trail will transform the disused railway corridor joining the two towns into a scenic and recreational route for cyclists, walkers and runners. On Monday, the Narrogin and Williams shires announced the Trail Feasibility Study would be led by Transplan director Mike Maher and Mike Halliburton Associates. The study will thoroughly examine the railway’s condition — such as bridges, fencing, old formations and general infrastructure — along with the construction’s viability and potential impacts. Adjoining landowners can consult with Mr Maher on site from Tuesday to Thursday about their suggestions or concerns in these early stages of development. The initiative was made possible by the combined efforts of both shires and funding support from the Community Trail Planning Grants Program, which secured $9715 for the study. The total cost of the project construction would be $29,430 with additional in-kind contributions from the Narrogin and Williams shires. Narrogin shire president Leigh Ballard said he was excited to broadcast the significant step toward developing the rail trail. “We see this rail trail as a fantastic opportunity to boost tourism and provide a valuable recreational asset for our communities,” he said. “Engaging with landowners and residents is crucial to ensure the project meets everyone’s needs.”
