Pingelly to host first round of Brookton Pony Express dirt bike endurance series as epic race returns

After a year-long hiatus, Dirt High Promotions owner Willie Thomson is proud to announce that the Brookton Pony Express dirt bike endurance race will return to the Wheatbelt South in July. Sidelined after a near-fatal motocross accident 13 months ago Mr Thomson is keen to see WA’s biggest off-road bike series bring excitement and action to the region again. “There was a recess after the accident but I’m back now,” he said. “We’ll get 350 riders no problem.” The first round of the four-hour two-rider team race will take place in Pingelly from July 6-7 on a new 20km track that runs from the Pingelly Recreation and Cultural Centre through the golf club and over farmland. It will be the first time Pingelly has hosted a leg of the event, something Mr Thomson said has been a long-held dream. “Seeing us host new races in these towns is incredibly exciting for us and the local racing community,” he said. “We are expecting this year to be our biggest motocross calendar yet.” The return of Mr Thomson and the Pony Express marks a big year for Dirt High Promotions with the group announcing they will also be bringing back the iconic Manjimup 15000 Motocross later this year. Free camping, live music and bonfires will mark the event’s triumphant return and riders at all levels and their families are invited to get involved. “All are welcome and it’s all about fun,” Mr Thomson said. “There’ll be night-time racing under lights, it’s entertaining and it’s fun with the family, there’s a lot of action around the starting line and the riders love it. “On the Friday night, there’ll be three, four, 500 people there already, the kids race on Saturday and then Saturday afternoon the seniors will do a prologue, wherever they finish is where they’ll start on Sunday.” Riders will be able to register on the day of the event and further information can be found on the Dirt High Promotions Facebook page.
