Record numbers battle it out for Cup spoils

A record number of teams from across the Great Southern took to the courts last Thursday for the Netball WA Great Southern High School Cup in Albany.

In all, 14 schools resulting in 61 teams competed in the annual competition, which included schools from Katanning, Gnowangerup, Narrogin, Boddington and as far east as Esperance. After 187 matches were played at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre across six divisions, the boys’ and girls’ winners were crowned.

Bethel walked away with two titles, winning the lower boys’ 7/8 and middle boys’ 9/10 divisions.

Bethel defeated Albany Senior High School 11-5 in the lower boys’ decider and were 10-goal winners over Katanning Senior High School, 16-6. Great Southern Grammar recorded an impressive win over ASHS in the upper girls’ 11/12 final, winning 22-14, while ASHS 1 triumphed in the middle girls’ 9/10 division 24-8 over St Joseph’s College.

St Joseph’s took out the lower girls’ 7/8 final 13-6 over Great Southern Grammar, while North Albany Senior High School won the upper boys’ 11/12 division over Great Southern Grammar 12-4.
