The Shire of Williams is set to receive a share of the $91,000 earmarked for National Road Safety Week events in May.

The Road Safety Commission, in partnership with the RAC, will support 22 community road safety events around WA between May 14 and 21 with grants of up to $5000.

The Shire of Williams has received funding to host an event encouraging travellers to take time out from their journey through the Wheatbelt to recharge and make contact with family or friends.

“As someone who is on the road a lot, I understand the importance of road safety,” Member for the Agricultural Region Shelley Payne said.

“These community events will help locals and travellers alike to help reduce road trauma by recognising signs of fatigue and other contributing factors”.

Road Safety Minister Paul Papalia said he was pleased to see regional communities coming on board to spread the message.

“We can never underestimate the power of community in highlighting the impact of road trauma and working together to reduce it.”
