Students hit the high notes at Narrogin Voice Festival

Transforming the school oval into a elaborate concert venue is no easy task, but that is exactly what Narrogin Primary School did last month for the Narrogin Voice Festival.

The festival came about after the annual One Big Voice concert — usually held at RAC Arena — was cancelled because of COVID-19.

School principal David Harrison championed the festival, involving all three Narrogin primary schools as well as schools from Gnowangerup and Yealering.

“The kids had worked all year in the lead-up to One Big Voice, and we just really didn’t want them to miss out on that opportunity, so we held our own,” he said.

“There’s nothing like being part of the joy of kids singing together, and the enthusiasm that comes out of that is just something you get a real buzz out of.”

Thechoir of about 130 students performed music from the One Big Voice repertoire to a crowd of hundreds on the school oval.

“It was great how it gave the kids the opportunity to perform and also gave our community something great to go and see,” Mr Harrison said.

“The songs for One Big Voice promote positive self-esteem, resilience and are so pertinent in 2020.”
