Teenager to hone her musical skills

Music has always been in Quindanning teenagerImogen Morgan’s blood.

Imogen’s passion has reaped rewards, with the 17-year-old selected as one of the artists to be part of WA Music’s Demos from Peel project.

She will join 10 other artists as they head to the historic Fairbridge Village in March for two weeks to work with award-winning producers and have their original songs released.

The talented Narrogin Senior High School student said she was excited to be part of the project.

“I was over the moon when I found out,” she said.

“I didn’t think I’d get it, I sent in a song I’d been sitting on for a few months, and coming from a farm with a country background, I didn’t know if I was good enough to be selected.”

Imogen has lived in Quindanning her whole life and said it was a great opportunity.

“I’ve always enjoyed music. My parents have musical backgrounds ... they played instruments when they were younger and obviously, some of that had to pass onto me,” she said.

With a strong passion for music, Imogen has learnt to play piano, flute, guitar and cello as well as writing and singing her own original songs.

Imogen is a Year 12 at Narrogin Senior High School and has done school performances as well as occasional busking and singing at the Quindanning Easter races.

“It’s very exciting to be working with award winning producers and having my music released,” Imogen said.

“It’ll be great to meet new people and have them listen to what I can do and learn from them to make my work sound better than I could have ever imagined.”

The singer-song writer draws on her personal experiences and emotions when creating her work.

After Imogen finishes high school she plans to work towards achieving a place at WAAPA.

The ten selected Peel artists will be working alongside renowned sound engineers and producers, including Matt Gio and Dan Carroll of Rada Studios, Debaser Studio’s Andy Lawson, with Ryan Brennan and national hip-hop legend Dazastah dropping by as guest producers.

Also, selected from Boddington is 24 year old hip hop artist and rapper Jason Pirrett also known as Groves.

Demos from Peel forms the third of nine regional projects set to record up to 90 regional artists across WA’s nine regions in the next three years.
