UGSCA 2024-25: A-grade returns with huge grand final rematch, new side Wickepin-Harrismith join top flight

The highly anticipated Upper Great Southern Cricket Association season gets under way this weekend with a tantalising grand final rematch. Wandering will get their chance to avenge last season’s heartbreaking grand final loss when they travel to Williams to take on their grand final rivals on Saturday in a blockbuster round one clash. Williams took out the 2023-34 premiership after a thrilling run chase which came done to the final five balls of the match, getting past Wandering’s total with just one wicket remaining. Newly promoted Wickepin-Harrismith, formerly Harrismith-Dudinin, will host wooden spooners Lake Grace on their first season in A-grade after taking out last season’s B-grade flag. Harrismith-Dudinin handed Boddington a five-wicket loss in last season’s B-grade decider, showing they have more than enough talent to compete in the top grade this season. Both matches will start at 12pm while the final match of the round between Cuballing and Towns has been rescheduled for December 21. In the B-grade competition 2023-24 runners-up Boddington will travel to Cuballing, Wagin will host Pingelly-Noonebin and Kukerin-Dumbleyung will tackle Towns at Nenke Oval. While all matches this season will be one-day format, players will still use a red ball and play in whites despite the format changes to country week announced by the WA Country Cricket Board recently. However, the association is looking into playing a match with coloured clothing and a white ball later in the season.
