Last season’s Upper Great Southern under-13’s cricket champions return to the field this weekend as junior action returns to the crease.

The Towns junior cricket team and coaches Bevan George and Scott Fowler geared up on October 18 for the first training session of the 2024-25 season in preparation for another campaign.

Fowler said the five to six new players are fitting in and the team can’t wait to play.

“They’ve come up from Woolworths cricket and there’s some kids who haven’t played before,” he said.

“It’s a challenge but Bevan’s got a wise knowledge of cricket, as I do, so they’ll be in good stead and we’ll try and show them the right path.

“It’s all about the kids enjoying a game of cricket, it’s a sport I got a real passion for so to watch them grow and play is great.”

Towns will take on Kulin-Kondinin at Clayton Road Oval on Sunday in their first game of the Lindsay Scott Shield competition, part of the Upper Great Southern Cricket Association.

Lake Grace, Williams, Boddington, Kukerin-Dumbleyung, Pingelly-Noonebin and Wagin will also compete in the junior competition.

The Woolworths Cricket Blast kids have also picked up their bats to continue honing their skills every Friday afternoon.

The program focuses on batting, bowling and fielding through game-based activities for cricketers under 10 of all skill levels.
