UGSFL 2024: Boddington coach Rod Williams says his refreshed side’s eye is firmly fixed on 10th premiership

Boddington are feeling fresh and energised after their week off, according to coach Rod Williams, as they look to add to their success in the Upper Great Southern Football League competition on Sunday. The Eagles will travel to hostile territory on Sunday to square off with Wickepin on their home deck in pursuit of a fourth premiership in seven years and their 10th in total. Williams confirmed his side would be at full strength barring the absences of Maxx Della Franca and Lewis Gillespie, who suffered season-ending knee injuries earlier in the season. The Eagles earned a direct path into the decider after defeating Williams in the qualifying final and the coach said his side was feeling fresh and ready to go ahead of the big dance. “Like everyone at this time of the year, we had a couple of sore boys, so we took the opportunity (to freshen up),” Williams said. “We had a pretty long training game-related session on Saturday and everybody got through, so we’ve got our best side that we can possibly have. “They’re up and about, they’re switched on, I think we’re prepared and we’re ready to go. “I don’t think there’s anything else we could do.” Campbell Spalding and defensive-minded midfielder Jack O’Callaghan are two players who will be in the mix to return to the side after not playing in the qualifying final win a fortnight ago. Williams said his side would draw on past grand final experience when they lock horns with the Warriors on enemy territory. “Absolutely (we draw on the 2022 grand final) along with 18, and when we went back-to-back in 19,” he said. “For a little tiny town, I think we’ve been pretty successful but we certainly won’t be any under any illusions. “Wickepin are a good side and we will have to be at our best. “I think the weather is going to be fine, so there’s really no excuses. “We’ll just stick to our game style and we’ll just be asking the boys to play to their strengths and do what they’ve been doing all year.” The UGSFL decider will start at 2.30pm at Wickepin.
