Wagin, Pingelly record round one wins in N&DNA
Wickepin could not hold off Wagin in Darkan in the opening round of the Narrogin & Districts Netball Association’s A1 division on Saturday.
Wickepin led 9-7 at the first break in the scorching conditions, and continued to build in the second term, extending their lead to 22-14 by half-time.
Wagin had acclimatised in the second half and dominated the third quarter, with 14 goals to six, to level the scores 28-28 at the end of the third quarter.
Waginworked hard in the fourth quarter to win 39-34.
Ata Elliot was named best on ground for Wagin, with team mate Laura Hutton-Storer also receiving votes.
Kelly Steere was Wagin’s best in goals.
Pingelly are still the team to beat in the Narrogin & Districts Netball Association’s A1 division.
In their first match at the Pingelly Recreation and Cultural Centre, Pingelly easily saw off Williams.
The home side jumped early on the visitors, cruising to a 15-3 goal lead at quarter time.
Williams outscored them in the second term, 14 goals to 10, with the scoreboard reading 25-17 in favour of Pingelly at half-time.
A dominant third quarter saw the home side’s lead swell to 17 with the score 40-23 heading into the final break.
Melissa Tinker, in her first game back in A1 after playing A2 last year, was relentless as WD providing pressure down the court.
Sheree Blechynden was once again accurate under goals, with Pingelly recording a 53-29 victory.
