Wagin upset Boddington in round two while Andrew Marshall plays his 350th club game for Brookton-Pingelly

Wagin made a big statement in round two of the Upper Great Southern Football League season, with a come-from-behind victory at home over reigning premiers Boddington on Saturday. The Bulldogs trailed the premiers by 10 points heading into the final term, but an inspired home side kicked five goals to one to overrun the Eagles and record a memorable 13-point win. The visitors led by three points at the main change before outscoring the home side in the third term to open up the double-digit lead but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs prevailed 12.13 (85) to 10.12 (72). Dylan Brown slotted four majors and was in the best for the victors, while Andrew Vawser (three goals), player-coach Paul Duffield, Matthew Marinoni and George Gibson were also influential. Matthew Giumelli, Jimi Gillespie and Ben Sherry were best for the Eagles as they lost their first gamesince round 11 last year. Williams remain undefeated after two rounds after recording an impressive 29-point win over Kukerin-Dumbleyung. The Cats set up the win with a seven-goal first half to open up a handy 27-point buffer at the main change in Dumbleyung. The Cougars put up a courageous fight in the second half but it was too little too late as they went down 9.7 (61) to 14.6 (90). Ashley Boyes kicked four goals in the win while Edward Aitken and Isaac Christoforou were also in the best players. Former WAFL forward Jalen McGee kicked three goals for the Cougars with Kent Patterson and Richard Watts also playing well. Wickepin had a comprehensive 46-point win over Brookton-Pingelly to win their second game of the year on Saturday. The Warriors lead by 17 points at half-time before kicking away in the second half, finishing victors 15.13 (103) to 8.9 (57). Ryan Melvin (four) and Dion Anthony (three) were terrific in the win along with Sam McGillivray while Lloyd Padwick (four) and ex-Brisbane Lion Matthew Moody were best for the Panthers. It was a big day for the Panthers as stalwart Andrew Marshall played his 350th club game for Brookton-Pingelly on Saturday. Marshall celebrated the milestone with a goal and a 10-point win in the reserves.
