Western Bulldogs and Pingelly’s Tim English fall short in AFL grand final as Demons dominate second half

Pingelly’s Tim English was left disappointed as his Western Bulldogs side fell short in their bid to win the 2021 AFL premiership, going down by 74 points to Melbourne on Saturday night.

English was playing in his first-ever football grand final on a historic day for his home State of WA, with the decider played at Optus Stadium.

However it didn’t play out the way the Brookton-Pingelly Football Club player had hoped as his side gave up a 19-point advantage midway through the third term to go down by more than 10 goals.

The result gave Melbourne their 13th premiership and first since 1964 in front of 61,118 fans.

English was watched by his parents, Jon and Julie, along with other friends and family but the Bulldogs lost 10.6 (66) to 21.14 (140) on the biggest stage.

The 24-year-old finished with 13 disposals, three marks, two tackles and 12 hit-outs in the loss.

The ruck-forward had a shot on goal in the second term after a strong mark but kicked it into the man on the mark and he also hit the post with another shot.

English was raised on his parents’ grain and sheep farm in Pingelly, where he went to primary school and played sport as a child.

He was picked up by the Bulldogs in the 2016 national draft after impressing in the WAFL with South Fremantle.
