Williams backman Isaac Christoforou wins George Warren medal as the fairest and best in UGSFL decider

Williams recruit Isaac Christoforou says he is lapping up premiership glory after celebrating a grand final victory in his first season with the Cats in the Upper Great Southern Football League. Christoforou was awarded the George Warren Medal as the fairest and best in his side’s 17-point win over the previously undefeated Wickepin in the decider at Pingelly on Sunday. The 22-year-old played at centre-half-back and was influential in the Cats’ first premiership since 2016, part of a defensive unit that kept the Warriors to one goal for the game. Christoforou travels down from Perth with close mates Jaymi Spinner-Mainstone and Cam Stedman and said he enjoyed every minute of the season. “To win a grand final is bloody fantastic — this is what we play footy for,” he said. “It’s a nice milestone to win best on ground but I’m just happy to get the win. “Well done to the boys, they are a pretty inviting group and I loved playing with them this season. “A couple of my mates were travelling so I decided to come down with them, and I’m glad I did.” He has previously played footy in Geraldton, Mullawa and Perth. Cristoforou said it was a real team effort at the weekend. “I just like to control the back line and make sure we have a good structure and talk to the boys up the field,” he said. “Everyone bought in on the weekend. We stayed together and worked together — we knew we could beat them.”
