A pilot has suffered head injuries after crashing a light plane in southwestern Sydney.

NSW Paramedics rushed to the crash scene at the Wedderburn Aerodrome in Appin, south of Sydney, about 10.45am on Friday.

An ambulance spokesman told NewsWire the pilot had crashed the plane on the roof of the hangar.

The male pilot, aged in his 70s, has been extricated and is believed to be in a stable condition.

Paramedics were still on scene as of 11.30am.

“We’ve had a light plane crash into the top of the hangar.

“Calls came in at about 9.53am.

“We have a number of specialist rescue trucks either on scene or on their way, including hazardous materials response expert firefighters as well.

Superintendent Dewberry said the plane was “three to five metres” off the ground.

“They have gained access to the pilot using a local ladder.”

He added NSWFR experts would assess the building and may need to “shore it up”.
