Wacol hit-and-run fatality: Ride-share passenger killed and two others seriously injured

A driver is on the run after a fatal collision in Brisbane has left one man dead and two others injured.

The crash, involving a Ford Mondeo and a Toyota Camry, occurred in Wacol at the intersection of Boundary Road and Progress Road around 2.30am on Tuesday.

The Camry is understood to be a ride-share vehicle.

Queensland Police confirmed a 30-year-old male passenger in the Toyota Camry died at the scene.

The driver of the Camry, a 42-year-old man, sustained suspected back injuries and was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.

A 26-year-old female passenger in the Camry was also taken to the same hospital in a serious but stable condition, suffering from chest and abdominal pain.

The driver of the Ford Mondeo fled the scene before police arrived.

Authorities are urging the driver to come forward and are appealing to any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage to contact them.

The forensic crash unit is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.

Third ride-share death in three days

The Wacol death is the third ride-share fatality in just three days.

On Sunday, police confirmed a father and his 12-year-old daughter were killed after the ride-share car they were travelling in was involved in a horrific crash in Sydney.

Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command arrived at Milperra Road, Milperra, to find a Toyota sedan and a Toyota utility had crashed rolling and trapping the sedan driver and passengers.

The father and daughter were backseat passengers of the sedan and died at the scene.

A third backseat passenger of the sedan, a 10-year-old boy, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.

Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden confirmed dashcam footage from the Sydney ride-share vehicle was examined on Monday.

“We’re satisfied that the traffic control lights were working at the time, and that the driver did undertake a right-hand turn, and that there were clearly visible in the dashcam, that there were other vehicles coming from the opposite direction,” he told reporters.

Mr McFadden went on to say he was “satisfied that it wasn’t safe” for the ride-share driver to complete to turn.

The crash scene has a 70km/h limit and police will investigate if speed was a contributing factor.
