St Mathew’s Primary School student Celine Lamprecht wins top art prize for her abstract self-portrait
St Mathew’s Primary School student Celine Lamprecht has been recognised for her artistic talents after she took home the Fra Angelico Art Award at a ceremony in Perth.
The Year 5 student was awarded the top gong in the primary school category for her self-portrait titled “Lavandula”, which is the scientific name for lavender, at the annual awards ceremony in Perth on August 16.
During her art classes, students learnt about Spanish street artist Okuda San Miguel and took inspiration from his abstract and colourful self-portrait work to create their own pieces..
Celine submitted a statement with her artwork which read: “How dull the world would be if we were all exactly alike”.
St Mathew’s PS art teacher Jessie Allinton said Celine was a happy, bright and gregarious student who “thrived on opportunities to be creative”.
“She showed particular skill when experimenting with colour. The pastel tints that she created and used in her final piece were incredible,” she said.
“In addition to paint, Celine utilised oil pastels and newspaper to add texture and interest to her artwork.
“Celine’s created a bright and beautiful piece of art, her personality shines through in it.”
