WA Governor Chris Dawson sends best wishes to Princess of Wales Kate Middleton after diagnosis reveal

WA Governor Chris Dawson has paid tribute to the Princess of Wales, praising her courage after being diagnosed with cancer.

Kate Middleton has stunned the world by revealing she has cancer - after months away from public engagements.

“My wife Darrilyn and I extend our heartfelt best wishes to the Princess of Wales,” Governor Dawson said in a statement released today.

“Our thoughts are with the Princess and her family following her cancer diagnosis and brave public statement.”

Governor Dawson sent a message of “love and support” for the Princess, on behalf of West Australians.

“As Governor, I convey the love and support of all Western Australians to the Princess,” he said.

In a video on Saturday morning, the Princess said she was undergoing chemotherapy for an unspecified cancer.

The world knew the Princess was recovering from abdominal surgery, but her cancer had been kept secret from the public up until now.

Her long absence from public engagements has sparked a media and social media frenzy.

WA Labor Minister Hannah Beazley said on Saturday that as a mother of two young boys, her heart went out to the Princess as she would no doubt be trying to be strong for her family.

“My thoughts are with Princess Kate and her family,” Ms Beazley said.

“She has always held herself with such grace and intellect.

“Princess Kate is only a few years younger than myself.

“We both have young children.

“I couldn’t help but think how my kids would be affected by that (cancer).

“And I wish her nothing but the best and a speedy and full recover. It’s a terrible situation.”

Ms Beazley said the Princess’s diagnosis showed cancer did not discriminate.

“The horrendous thing about cancer is that is can strike anyone, anytime, any place.

“It goes to show it’s incredibly important to look after our heath.”
