Meeting some of WA’s Little Telethon Stars has inspired some lofty ambitions for the organisers of a Baldivis fundraiser.

Members of the Heritage and Indian motorcycle clubs of WA, Geoff Coole and Graeme Hammond, helped run the inaugural Golden Ponds Show and Shine event in 2023, where they raised $5654 for Telethon.

This year, they hope the October 13 event will garner twice that.

Mr Coole, of Rockingham, said he met some of the 2023 Little Telethon Stars during last year’s Show and Shine.

“When you see these kids, you soon realise how important Telethon is,” he said.

“Kids are the future of WA so it’s important to do our bit. It makes you want to do it again and hopefully we’ll double the amount raised.”

The event came to fruition following a chance meeting with the owner of Golden Ponds function centre Tony Pannacchione, who suggested the clubs host an event at his venue and offered use of the grounds free of charge.

Mr Coole said they had more than 400 cars and motorbikes on display last year but had already received more than 1000 inquiries from potential exhibitors ahead of this weekend’s event.

Exhibitors of cars and bikes pay a $10 entry fee, while the cost for visitors is $5, with free entry for those 16 and under.

Motoring enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their prized possessions, with a varied display expected of classic, vintage and heritage cars and bikes.

Mr Coole said the event would likely offer the largest display of Indian Springfield motorcycles in WA.

“There is a very, very large community of car enthusiasts and motorcycle enthusiasts from Rockingham to Mandurah and Waroona,” he said. “Then once you attach Telethon to it, they generally get behind Telethon.”

The Golden Ponds Show and Shine is on October 13 from 10am to 1pm at 355 Mundijong Road, Baldivis, with exhibitors entry from 8am and set up by 9.30am.

Food and coffee vans will be available, and prizes for exhibitors.

All money raised will be donated to Telethon.
