With Christmas getting closer, Australia Post has announced those in WA have until mid-December to send parcels, letters and packages to far-away loved ones.

There is a December 18 deadline for national and international post from metropolitan areas in WA to arrive in most States by Christmas Day. The deadline is one day earlier for mail going to Queensland, and for those with loved ones in the Northern Territory, it must be sent by December 13.

People sending mail from regional areas are encouraged to allow additional time, meaning those in the South West need to be prepared in early December.

Express post items from metro areas have until December 20, with more time needed from the regions.

Parcels and letters being sent overseas have separate posting times depending on what is being sent and where its destination is.

Most standard parcels and letters are expected to need to be sent from as early as November 28 to as late as December 16.

Australia Post’s website, where more information can be found, says nearly 100 million parcels were delivered last year to customers during November and December.

It recommends sending Christmas parcels as early as possible, with mail sent after the expected cut-off dates to be delivered “as quickly as we can”, but Australia Post makes no promises they will arrive before December 25.
