A country football match was brought to an abrupt halt by a group of bizarre pitch invaders at the weekend.

The uninvited third team was made up of a mob of emus, which invaded Pemberton Oval during the Southerners and Tigers match.

The game came to a stop for several minutes as players and officials attempted to usher the emus off the field.

The wacky scene was without doubt a uniquely Australian moment, with an hilarious video of the incident making its way onto TikTok.

It shows the six big birds racing around the oval as players and umpires work out what to do next.

Eventually, the emus were chased off the oval and the clash resumed.

After the Tigers held a 13 point quarter time lead, Southerners mounted a second-term comeback, kicking eight majors to the Tigers inaccurate 1.8.

Southerners had extended their lead in the third quarter — when the emus then made their appearance.

Once the surprise guests ushered off the oval, Southerners finished with 6.2 for the term, with the Tigers adding two majors.

Despite the Tigers booting another three in final term, it wasn’t enough as Southerners ran out comfortable winners 18.21 (129) to 11.6 (72).

Southerners’ Ben Cabassi kicked 10 goals for the match with the Tigers’ Reece Edwards booting five.
