Sydney woman accused of murdering and butchering husband

A mother of eight who is accused of murdering and butchering her husband before disposing of his dismembered remains in bins across southwestern Sydney will learn more about the allegations against her in the coming weeks.

Nirmeen Noufl, 54, was not present in Burwood Local Court on Wednesday after she was in October charged with the murder of her husband Mahmoud at their Greenacre home, a year-and-a-half after he went missing.

Mr Noufl, better known as Emad, was last seen in May last year, with police alleging that he was murdered by Ms Noufl at some point either late on May 3 – shortly after he returned from meeting with a friend – or 2am the next morning.

It’s not known how he died, nor have his remains been recovered.

But police allege that he died during an altercation with his wife, who is accused of further covering up the killing.

Burwood Local Court was told on Wednesday that a partial brief of evidence had been served on Ms Noufl’s legal team.

Further reports were yet to be served, with the matter to return to court next year.

The prosecution asked for an eight-week adjournment.

Ms Noufl has yet to enter a plea and she was last month denied bail by the NSW Supreme Court.

It has been alleged that Ms Noufl cut up her husband using kitchen knives and a drop saw and put his body parts in 20 to 30 plastic rubbish bags.

Police have alleged that his body parts were then disposed of in bins across Bexley and Chullora before Ms Noufl used chemicals and bleach to clean the crime scene.

Police further allege that the flooring in the home’s kitchen, living room and dining room were ripped up and replaced.

It’s alleged that Ms Noufl took control of her husband’s phone and social media accounts, using them to make out that he was still alive.

It’s alleged she also used his social media accounts to demand that his “female companion” in Egypt return money given to her by Mr Noufl.

The court was previously told Ms Noufl was arrested after checking herself in as a mental health inpatient at Bankstown Hospital before being charged.

Last month, she asked to be released on bail to seek treatment for her mental health, citing her strong community ties in Sydney and an estimation that any trial would not likely take place until 2026.

The court has also been previously told there was evidence that Mr Noufl was violent towards Ms Noufl during their marriage, a claim supported by police as well as statements made to her doctor.

Court documents tendered in the Supreme Court also revealed claims by Ms Noufl’s sister who said she and Ms Noufl were both subjected to domestic violence by their father.

Ms Noufl’s sister also said they were beaten by their mother.
