A Perth musician has pleaded with fans to help after a back injury left him bedridden and unable to play in a “career defining tour”.

Nick Osborne, 29, and one third of the instrumental rock band Yomi Ship, has launched a GoFundMe page after being diagnosed with a severe herniated disc.

“I am seeking to raise funds to pay for surgery to correct a herniated disk in my lower back and for subsequent rehabilitation,” Osborne said.

“I have been left bedridden, unable to work, drive a car, or even stand for a few minutes at a time ever since”.

The timing of the injury could not be worse for the aspiring musician, as his band just released their debut album and is set to go on its first international tour.

“I was hoping for a miracle recovery but it wasn’t to be, leading me to reluctantly pull out of Yomi Ship’s first ever international tour throughout Europe and the UK :( “

Mr Osborne is also a self-employed drum teacher and part time disability carer.

“I have had zero income having being unable to work or do basic day to day activities as I cannot stand longer than 2-3 minutes at a time. I love working as a drum teacher and I’m missing my students,” he wrote.

Osborne is not the first Perth musician to ask for financial assistance with medical bills. Courtney Murphy, of Australian Idol fame, launched a crowdfunding campaign back in early April after a shock late-stage bowel cancer diagnosis.

By lunchtime on Friday, Mr Osborne’s GoFundMe has raised $8,355 out of a $15,000 target.

Osborne has been contacted for further comment.
