Drivers are urged to be cautious on a major Perth highway with several traffic lights down due to a fallen power line.

A truck crashed into a power line just before 6.30am at the intersection of Beckenham Street and Albany Highway in Beckenham, which has left three sets of traffic lights out.

Albany Highway has also been closed in both directions between Clapham and Beckenham Street as Western Power work to remove the broken power line and restore power.

This has left traffic backing up with Main Roads urging drivers to be cautious and take an alternative route.

If you drive through a blacked out traffic light slow down and give way to your right.

More than 2300 homes have also been left without power in Beckenham, Kenwick, and Maddington due to the fallen power line.

The power is expected to be restored by 11.30am.
