South Guildford: Great Eastern Highway partially closed as driver suffers serious injuries in power pole crash

Emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash in South Guildford where a car hit a power pole and rolled, seriously injuring the driver. St John WA — including a special operations paramedic— were called to the crash on Great Eastern Highway about 2.15pm on Thursday. Police said a car hit a power pole near the busy highway before it rolled, trapping the driver. A St John WA spokeswoman said the driver, of unknown age and gender, had since been rescued from the vehicle before being transferred to Royal Perth Hospital. It is understood they have been seriously injured. Firefighters were also called to assist police and paramedics. The area remains congested with several emergency services remaining at the scene. The damage to the power pole has cut electricity to 207 people in the Redcliffe, South Guildford and Ascot areas, according to Western Power. The estimated restoration time is 9.30pm. Great Eastern Highway from Kingsley Drive to Kalamunda Road in South Guildford has been closed. Traffic is being diverted and drivers are urged to avoid the area if possible.
