Beaches remain open but water users are urged to take caution around Rockingham after a tagged shark set off multiple alerts at the weekend.

Surf Life Saving WA reported that the tagged bull shark was detected by the Warnbro Sound receiver about 15 times in 24 hours on Saturday.

There was also a report from the public about a three metre bull shark hanging around about 10 metres offshore at Warnbro Beach on Friday.

“It is possible the frequency and duration of the recent reported tagged shark detections may increase the likelihood of encountering a shark in this area,” a Surf Life Saving WA spokesperson said.

“Although sharks may be present along the Western Australian coast throughout the year, people should exercise additional caution.”

In January, 12-year-old Phalon Overell was bitten on the foot not far south of Warnbro Sound at Shipwreck Cove.

He had a minor bite and spent the night at Rockingham General Hospital.

In 2023, a bull shark was blamed for the death of 16-year-old Stella Berry in the Swan River, and just a few weeks ago another took a bite out of a kayak in the same area.

Officers from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development are monitoring the situation.

If a shark is spotted water users can report it to Water Police on 9442 8600
