While Perth is in for another soaking, other parts of WA are set to swelter as they reach temperatures close to 40C.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecast areas in WA’s far north will scorch on Saturday, bringing winter weather to an early end.

“Temperatures are really set to skyrocket across northern parts of the State, including a 39C forecast in Kununurra,” meteorologist Angus Hines said.

Mr Hines said he would not rule out some areas reaching 40C on Sunday, saying that kind of heat is “uncommon in August no matter where you are in the country”.

Fire danger levels across the country are also set to rise at the weekend.

“We’re not yet into the fire weather season for most of Australia, but with this combination of hot, dry and at times windy weather, we will see widespread moderate to high fire danger across Australia in the coming days.”

Closer to the CBD, temperatures are set to remain in the low 20s, with the chance of a thunderstorm on Thursday afternoon and Saturday afternoon.
